Rollerblading as Practice

Given that it’s difficult or impossible for a lot of us to take to the ice right now in certain parts of Canada, rollerblading is a great way to practice your stride while staying in shape for the time that hockey does return.

The stride on hockey skates and rollerblades are nearly identical, with really the only difference being adjusting on rollerblades to the cracks and crevices in the ground. They also work the same muscles and get your legs up and running again just in time for ice hockey.

It also makes for a great family activity, with the added benefit of being outdoors and seeing the neighbourhood and local scenery while you do so.

You may think they’re expensive, and if you buy new that might be the case, but if you check local groups online, Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, eBay, etc. we’re willing to bet you’ll be able to find a great deal in no time. That way you won’t feel as bad if you and/or your child never uses them once hockey comes back. You can always sell them again, anyway!

One last great thing about rollerblading is you can bring a stick and ball along while you’re out and work on your stickhandling and keeping your head up at the same time, replicating the hockey experience better than anything else can.

We highly recommend you get out and give it a try!
