{"id":5567,"date":"2019-05-08T16:15:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T16:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iplayhockey.ca\/2019\/05\/08\/how-to-be-a-supportive-hockey-parent\/"},"modified":"2025-09-01T16:30:55","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T16:30:55","slug":"how-to-be-a-supportive-hockey-parent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iplayhockey.ca\/fr\/how-to-be-a-supportive-hockey-parent\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Be a Supportive Hockey Parent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the biggest determining factors in both a child&#8217;s success and enjoyment in the game of hockey is the support of his or her parents.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re the ones that drive you to and from the rink for practice, give you pep talks before the big game, and they&#8217;re also the ones fronting the expenses that come with the game.<\/p>\n<p>There are ways to be a supportive hockey parent that&#8217;ll make your child&#8217;s experience more enjoyable, and will also help them become a better player along the way.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these ways are as follows!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Criticize, but constructively<\/li>\n<li>Encourage them when they&#8217;re playing well<\/li>\n<li>Regardless of the level they&#8217;re playing at, make them feel as if they&#8217;re playing at the top<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t discourage their National Hockey League (NHL) dreams<\/li>\n<li>Watch their games attentively, and be sure they can hear you screaming their name<\/li>\n<li>Never allow\u00a0them to feel as though\u00a0paying for hockey, or attending their games or practices is a burden to your life<\/li>\n<li>Coach their team if you have the time to do so!<\/li>\n<li>No matter what the results of their games are, tell them you&#8217;re proud of them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the day always comes when your child no longer wants to play the game.
