The Saturday Feb 22, version of Gator Hockey saw us take on our second opponent in our recent re-tier DivUp. Who you ask? Did you not read the title I respond back… It was Blades of Steel. Duh
Who are the Blades of Steel? Well, veteran Gator Culby informed us they are a bunch of old Edmonton Royals players. Culby, always the historian. Anywhooooo, commence the summary!
The Gators took to the ice with a full to the brim roster of 14 skaters, quite the rarity. Crack a few heavy beers and hit the ice.
Both teams came out firing from all angles. 20 first period Gators shots equated to lamps from Kyle “Gilbert” Gillis and guest Gator Brady Goebel. Teske being the giving guy he his hit the score sheet with and assist as did Scradley. Sandwiched in there was a Steel goal to end the period 2-1 Gators. No penalties meant we were in the nacho hunt.
Second period saw nachos getting ruined by a Blades skater running into Brady. Brady is a pretty solid guy, so the benefit of the doubt goes to the smaller fella on this one. Steel went on to get the PP goal and voila we’re tied up.
Then we do what do sometimes…
score goals in bunches… congregations if you will
*** education corner says a group of gators is a congregation ***
KT started assisted by Goebel. Then Jordo got us up by 2 from Overton and Goebel. Then Jordo returned the favor to Trace, and the period finished with Scradley’s 23rd of the season assisted by Teske and Culbs. 6-2 Gators on a 46-30 shot differential.
Third cooled down a bit and the Blades clawed back a couple goals to make it 6-4. Scradley finished the scoring with his team leading 24th and the game finishes 7-4.
Hayes stops 40 for the win and the Gators move to 22-2 on the season
Other Gator News:
Gilbert didn’t bring Bud Light… I think
Connie and KT are an unreal tandem
4 confirmed skaters in the morning to a full roster at game time is a nice touch for an 11pm game
Neil’s bruise is a multitude of colors
Spenny shocking only went -1. Then again there was a distinctive garbage can banging noise whenever Connie and KT hit the ice… probably unrelated that Spenny jumped on the ice shortly thereafter.
