The Russians are coming 2020-02-29

The Soviet Union, officially known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was a federal sovereign state in northern Eurasia that existed from 1922 to 1991. Nominally a union of multiple national Soviet republics, in practice its government and economy were highly centralized.  That was then

Its 2020 now, and I’m pretty sure the Soviets don’t exist anymore, alongside the physical land area that the USSR occupied.  That’s how it works right?  Regardless, the Soviets have condensed everything and now occupy the 4th (of 20) division of the RCHL.

And, interestingly enough, we played them.

Did we win?  Well glad you asked.  No. No we didn’t.  Thanks for opening that wound

If its any consolation, we have a hodge-podge lineup of Gators and (fellow divisional team) Buds Hockey players.  We get along with most teams so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to grab some bodies when needed.

First period we got off to a great start off the sticks of Goebel and Teske.  This got erased by the end of the period off 2 Soviet goals and the period ended 2-2 with a minor shot advantage going to the Gators at 12-10

Second saw the Soviet invade the lead early on.  Scradley was having none of that and tallied his 25th of the season and not much else happened.   No penalties again, matching shot totals of 9/piece.  Tie game at 3-3

Third had the Soviet strike first again and adding a go-ahead goal at the 8min mark.  Buckley clawed back a goal 11min in but that was the best the boys in Green&Gold could do tonight.

Final score

Soviet 5

Gators 4

Hayes stopped 26 in the loss
