If you’re the coach or parent of a child on a minor hockey team, do everything in your power to make an out-of-town tournament happen. It’ll be worth it every time.
Some of the best memories we at iPlayHockey have from our childhoods are the weekends spent in nearby towns and cities, exploring and competing against hockey teams we never had the chance to play against before.
Out-of-town tournaments serve as a measuring stick for where you stack up against regional competition, but they are also so much more than that.
They are a chance to turn teammates into friends. That’s just what happens when you give same-aged kids three days to run around, explore, adventure, and be kids!
We understand the costs associated with these tournaments, given that you’ll probably have to bring the whole family and shell out money for tournament registration fees, hotels, meals and entertainment, but if you have the means to do so, make it happen. Because your child is never going to forget these experiences.
There’s always sponsorship opportunities as well as fundraising initiatives, so take advantage of everything available to you and your team.
Step outside of your comfort zone and create a weekend worth remembering!
